The INCREDIBLE Edible Cell Gallery

Hey Ravens!

I was so impressed with how well everyone worked during the Incredible Edible Cell Lab on Friday! Click on this link to see the pictures of each students’ incredible (and edible) cell: Gallery

Here are a few outstanding cells from each class:

Block 1….Mckinly!

Mckinly’s cell is so lovely because you can clearly see her nuclear membrane and cell membrane.  Well done!

Block 2…Deja!

Deja’s cell is beautifully organized! She has each piece of her plant cell included (except the chloroplast raisin which she left on the side.  Apparently many RRMS 7th graders do not like raisins.)

Block 3…Amari!

Amari did a great job with his cell! It is clear that he knows that the large vacuole on a cell is important! He grouped all his marshmallows (vacuoles) together to show that they are one unit.

Block 5…Milana!

Milana’s animal cell is excellent! Notice that the vacuoles (marshmallows) are much smaller in Milana’s animal cell than in Amari’s plant cell!

Science Quote of the Week: “Science and everyday life cannot and should not be separated.” -Rosalind Franklin

Scientist of the Week: Rosalind Franklin

rosalindRosalind Franklin is a part of one of my  all-time favorite science stories: the discovery of DNA! Ms. Franklin used X-rays to take pictures of DNA.  It is because of her that two famous scientists, Watson and Crick, were able to develop a “double helix” model Photo_51_x-ray_diffraction_imageof DNA.  Unfortunately, Ms. Franklin does not get much credit for her discovery! But without her picture (which you can see posted left of here), we would not know nearly as much about cells and DNA.
Do X-Rays fascinate you? Check out this major: Medical Radiologic Technology

Growth Mindset Quote of the Week: “Fortune favors the prepared mind.” -Louis Pasteur

Scientist of the Week: Louis Pasteur

If Louis Pasteur, never made his discoveries about microbacteria, the medical world today would be different! Check out all the different types of medical majors here:  Health and Medicine Majors
